MACOM to Showcase Newly Acquired Mindspeed Comcerto 2000 System-on-Chip (SoC) Processors at the 2014 International CES

Jan 07, 2014

Live Demonstrations to display High-Performance Multi-drive Storage, 4x4 WiFi and Ultra-low Power Battery Mode for Smart Home Gateways

LOWELL, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- M/A-COM Technology Solutions Holdings Inc. ("MACOM"), a leading supplier of high performance RF, microwave, and millimeter wave products, today announced that it will be demonstrating several new ground-breaking applications for its recently acquired Mindspeed Comcerto 2000 series of processors at the 2014 International CES.

The company will be hosting private technology demonstrations by appointment this week for service providers, OEM customers, press, and analysts in meeting room MP25469 in the South Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center at the 2014 International CES from January 7-10, 2014.

MACOM offers a broad portfolio of pervasive connectivity solutions powered by its new Comcerto 2000 communications processor family for next-generation telecommunications and enterprise communications platforms.

Introduced in June 2012, the Comcerto 2000 multi-core ARM Cortex-A9 CPU-based communications processors enable a new generation of products for switching, routing, security, multi-service gateways, enterprise class wireless access points and controllers, network attached storage and VoIP applications for residential, enterprise and small to medium businesses. The processor family is ideally suited for either control processors or for mixed control and data plane applications.

Comcerto 2000 demonstrations for CES 2014 are scheduled to include:

  • A 4x4 802.11ac WiFi Router using the new Quantenna QSR1000 chipset
  • An ultra low power battery mode intended for mission critical applications with zero downtime requirements such as home security
  • A 4-bay NAS reference design with RAID5 acceleration and high-throughput encryption
  • A Wi-Fi enabled (802.11ac) network attached storage (NAS)

"With these demonstrations, we highlight the benefits of the Comcerto 2000's unique architecture" said Laurent Hendrichs, Director of Marketing, Communications Processors. "The NAS and WiFi demos underscore the effectiveness of the acceleration engines by showing industry leading performance in situations in which competitive products tend to be limited by CPU cycles. Likewise, the ultra-low power battery mode enables a whole new range of ‘zero downtime' applications by leveraging the processor's revolutionary power management features and software inspired by wireless technology."

In addition, on display will be a collection of broadband home routers and gateway devices from global customers serving high-speed broadband wired and wireless deployments in China, Japan, the United States, Korea, Sweden, Russia, the UK, France, Singapore and more.

Representatives from MACOM's Enterprise, high-performance analog (HPA) business unit, will also be on hand to discuss its portfolio of highly integrated laser drivers that enable optical transceiver and optical network terminal (ONT) vendors to significantly reduce their overall system costs. The devices can be implemented in traditional module formats or with a bi-directional optical sub-assembly (BOSA) that can be mounted directly onto the ONT board to reduce bill-of-material (BOM) costs.
